5 Tips For Wearing Perfume

Pin It Now!
Hello Ladies!

Today we will be looking at 5 foolproof ways to wear perfume and some information about perfume.

What are Perfumes?

Perfumes are mixtures of essential oils, fixatives, and aromatic compounds designed to leave a long lasting scent on ones person.
They include (in order of scent concentration) :
  • Eau de Toilette- A skin refresher, label as a "weak perfume" or "body splash", applied liberally. Average of 10% aromatic compounds.
  • Eau de Parfume- Stronger than an Eau de Toilette with a lasting scent. Normally 15% aromatic compounds.
  • Perfume Extract- 20% aromatic compounds. The most expensive, potent, and long lasting of the three.

1. Apply After a Shower
By applying after a shower when your skin is moist and soft, the perfume can soak into your skin more readily. Moist skin will also allow the scent to last longer. If you do not shower beforehand, wash or lotion the areas you will be spraying.

2. Apply Without Clothes or Jewelry On
Many chemicals in perfume can stain that favorite shirt you were planning on wearing. Plus, you want to perfume yourself, not your clothes.

3. Apply to Your Pulse Points
When wearing an Eau de Parfume or a strong scent, lightly spritz or dab your wrists and and throat. When wearing an Eau de Toilette or a lighter scent, you can also dab pulse points behind the ears, your chest, inside the elbows, and behind the knees. By applying where blood flows on your body, you allow the scent to "warm up" and become rapidly diffused.

4. Allow the Scent to Dry
Let the perfume dry before you dress to prevent any perfume to rub off your skin onto your clothes. Also, refrain from rubbing your wrists together, or just rubbing the perfume in. The chemicals in perfume are very delicate, and doing so can alter the balance of the scent and crush it.

5. Less is More
Personally, I think this is the most important. You want the scent to intermingle with your natural scent and attract people, not to warn people of your presence 500 yards away. Use discretion when applying perfume and make sure any other scents, soap, or lotions you are wearing do not clash with the scent.

Hope this helps, and leave your answer to my reader question in the comments below!

Q: What is your favorite scent?

(Mine is either Victoria's Secret's "Bombshell" or Marc Jacobs' "Daisy"!)

Stay Chic,
xo Haley

  2. This is a great post with wonderful information. I haven't worn perfume in years, but now you've got me thinking about it again.

As for favorite scents, mine are very old school: White Shoulders, Exclamation, and Love's Baby Soft. From when I was in high school more than twenty years ago.

Happy Sharefest. I hope you have a nice holiday.
